Lebanese oud virtuoso to join Iranian band for Tehran concert
TEHRAN – Renowned Lebanese oud virtuoso Charbel Rouhana is scheduled to accompany the Iranian band Gardun for a concert at Tehran’s Rudaki Hall on February 17, bandleader Azad Mirzapur told the Persian service of MNA on Sunday.The fusion concert is on the timeline of the 31st Fajr International Music Festival, which will be held from February 10 to March 9.
Gardun also features Mirzapur on tar, Mehrdad Alami on cello, and Hossein Rezainia, Zakaria Yusefi and Asal Malekzadeh on percussion.
Composer and member of the Beirut Oriental Ensemble, Rouhana is also famous for developing a new method of learning the oud.
Pop star Benyamin Bahadori signs movie deal
TEHRAN – Iranian pop star Benyamin Bahadori has signed a contract to play a role in “Hi Mumbai”, an Iranian-Indian film project, the Persian service of IRNA reported on Sunday.
He will costar with Bollywood actress Dia Mirza and Iranian superstar Mohammadreza Golzar in the project.
Filming for the project will begin early February with Iranian director Qorban Mohammadpur. Pahlaj Nihalani and Javad Noruzbeigi are the producers of the film.
Kayhan Kalhor to promote doc on Silk Road Ensemble at Berlinale
TEHRAN -- Iranian kamancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor, who is also a member of the multinational ensemble Silk Road, will attend the 66th Berlin International Film Festival on February 15 to promote “The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble”, U.S. filmmaker Morgan Neville’s documentary about the band.
The Silk Road Ensemble was formed in 2000 with the help of French-born Chinese American cellist Yo-Yo Ma as a way of bringing together innovative performers and composers representing traditions from around the world.
“Think about It” to compete in Goldensun Short Film Festival
TEHRAN – Iranian animation “Think about It” directed by Faezeh Sepehr-Sadeqian will compete in Goldensun Short Film Festival running in Zebbug, Malta from January 4 to 12.
The animation is a free adaption of “Anecdote on the Decline of the Work Ethic” by German writer Heinrich Boll (1917-1985).
